House No.5

no5fampic3Tom and Jennie Newman together with their three young children - Toby, Freya and George - moved into No.5 in 2007. The House has a ‘work hard, play hard’ ethos and Tom encourages the boys to pull together as a team and support each other. It is very much Tom’s philosophy to make every boy feel valued and confident of his own abilities.

Tom is a very keen sportsman who believes that the inclusive, supportive and encouraging culture within the House helps to create a confident and well-balanced individual.

He and Jennie put great emphasis on pastoral care, and ensure that No.5 is a happy and secure place for the boys to grow up and flourish. Indeed many social events are organised for each of the year groups as well as for parents, including the ‘Friends of Five’ evenings.

Prize Winning Drama by No.5

Wednesday 08. of February 2012

The dark and macabre adaption of the film 'Shutter Island' came to the stage last weekend and with great results too. No.5 won the House Drama prize for ‘best design and technical support’. This was a remarkable achievement, and one that both Tom Fayle and Wulstan Nixon, the joint directors, can be very proud of.

Centred around a mental hospital, with a lead role from Matthew Withnall who played Teddy with such great conviction, the play gripped the imagination, and certainly the nerve, of the audience. At times you could cut the tension with a knife as Tom, Wulstan, Matthew as well as Dan Garnett and Hugo Williams, all put in very strong performances.
It was a night to remember for our actors and demonstrated that the talent in the House for acting is second to none. A great night for No.5!

No.5 Ferrets' Race

Wednesday 18. of January 2012

Despite freezing weather and fading light on the Common, the No.5 FY competed strongly in the Ferrets' Race on Tuesday.

The boys showed great team spirit and character as well as giving giving 100% over the one and a half mile course. With some injuries preventing a full team, the boys did themselves proud and promptly devoured the tea in the House shortly afterwards!
