National Prep Schools' Cross Country 2012

 

Some 860 runners aged 9-13 braved the mud and the rain to compete in the 20th National Preparatory Schools' Cross Country Championships at Malvern College on Sunday 4th March. Drawn from as far away as Kent, Cumbria, Lincolnshire and Dorset the runners battled out over a series of courses, ranging from 1.7km to 3.2km, set out on Malvern Wells Common and the College campus

In the U11 Girls' race, Kathleen Faes from Derwent Lodge was the individual winner, Cheam won the Team Competition and the Small Schools' Trophy went to St Catherine’s. Ben Smith from The Beacon won the U11 Boys' race, Rokeby the team event and Tockington Manor the Small Schools' Trophy. In the U13 Girls' category, trophies were won by Annabel Simpson from St Hugh’s in the individual event, Bromsgrove Prep in the Team Competition and Hanford in the Small Schools' Competition. In the final race of the day, Freddie Fielding from Packwood Haugh took the U13 Boys' title, helping his team to win the Team and Small Schools' Competition. The prizes were presented by Emma Gooderham, a member of Malvern Joggers, who is also the reigning World 50km Road Champion and Commonwealth 55km Trail Champion.

With over 1200 parents, teachers and supporters the day was the largest in the event's history.
